On June 15, 2023, a convoy of white soldiers hit an improvised explosive device near Keibané, Mali, killing two and wounding eleven. They brutally retaliated against local villagers, killing five, including the local village chief. Unfortunately, this kind of savagery is nothing new for many in Mali, the Central African Republic, Libya, and other countries in Africa where the Wagner Group, a Russian-backed and oligarch-supported mercenary group, has taken up residence.

Recent long-range attacks made by Ukraine – like the one today on the Chongar Bridge in Crimea – have spurred speculation as to what weapons are being employed. One of those that has been promised but has still not been confirmed as operational is the U.S.-donated Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), although there certainly has been rumors and claims about its use..
But a top Pentagon official on Thursday testified before Congress that those weapons won’t come online until this Fall.

n the future, Ukraine will re-arm itself with the CV90 BMP, while we are talking about 1000 cars, which is extremely positive news. Because we are talking about one of the most modern infantry fighting vehicles in the world, which has proven itself well, is constantly developing, being updated and will be in service for decades to come.
On the part of Defense Express, it is quite correct to devote a separate material to this BMP, produced by the giant BAE Systems, which has already announced its entry into Ukraine, and to pay attention to possible alternatives, including domestic options.

James Cameron, the famed director of the 1997 film Titanic and many other critically acclaimed movies, has offered some significant words of wisdom on the recent tragedy involving the Titan submersible in an interview with ABC News. Cameron is also an experienced underwater explorer who has made 33 trips to the wreck of the RMS Titanic. He also led the development of a deep-diving submersible that allowed him to become the first person to make a solo descent to the deepest known seabed on Earth, a part of the Mariana Trench called Challenger Deep.

Thermobarics, also known as “vacuum bombs,” suck up the oxygen in their explosive range to mix with fuel, massively increasing their explosive power, flammability, and antipersonnel effects. There’s nowhere to hide when someone drops a thermobaric bomb on a unit; buildings, foxholes, and even bunkers can be destroyed by its power.
Although many countries, including the United States, have long had thermobaric weapons, Russia deploys thermobaric missiles on mobile launchers – and used one against a band of anti-Kremlin partisans on Russian soil in June 2023.

Officials from the United Arab Emirates recently announced the country stopped participating with the Combined Maritime Forces, a 34-member coalition task force fighting terrorism and piracy in the Red Sea and around the Persian Gulf.

The Special Operations Forces community has weathered unimaginable sacrifice and challenge over the last several decades. A few of their spouses are on a mission to create a healing connection at the dining room table.
KaLea Lehman didn’t know that becoming a SOF spouse would change her life. “I met and married my husband in 2006 just before his first deployment to Iraq. He joined Army Special Forces shortly after that deployment because he was drawn to the unique and diverse unconventional mission sets Green Berets engaged in,” she explained.
We’ve talked about legendary moments from the Battle of Leyte Gulf, a decisive battle that cemented Japanese naval defeat at the end of World War II. The task force Taffy 3 annihilated Japanese forces. A Navy ace fighter pilot shut down a 60-plane attack almost single-handedly. And five battleships damaged or sunk at Pearl Harbor slaughtered Japanese ships attempting a surprise attack.

By late 1944, America and its allies firmly held the momentum in the Pacific.
The Navy’s Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Charleston (LCS 18) docked at its homeport in San Diego on June 14 — officially completing its 26-month maiden deployment, which involved multiple “first-time” achievements for the sea service.
Despite some tailing from Chinese vessels, this marked the longest deployment for any U.S. littoral combat ship to date, and it was the first time an LCS performed mine countermeasure training outside of American waters.
China and Cuba are in active talks on the creation of a new joint military training center on the island, 160 kilometers from the United States.
According to a senior US official, Beijing and Havana are discussing what kind of training would take place at the facility and what the leadership structure would look like. Biden administration officials have raised these talks with their counterparts in Beijing and Havana. It is not clear, however, how far China and Cuba have progressed in their talks on prospects for a deal, the official said.

Much of the world’s attention has been captured by the efforts to find the submersible Titan, which went missing while taking tourists down to see the famous sunken wreck of the ocean liner RMS Titanic on Sunday. While hopes of a positive outcome have now evaporated, the situation inevitably recalls another incident, back in 1973, when a similar-sized submersible, Pisces III, was rescued from the seabed in what is still the deepest successful rescue of its kind in history.
Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall is keen on his department acquiring artificial intelligence capabilities, but he’s not so gung-ho on some of the generative AI technology that’s commercially available now.
Tools that can generate content — such as text, audio and images — based on prompts and the data they’re trained on have gone viral in recent months.
“There are certain forms of AI, which are advancing dramatically. And the one that’s getting an awful lot of attention right now is generative AI.

According to a video posted on Telegram, Challenger 2 main battle tanks donated by the UK to Ukraine have been deployed to the front lines by the Ukrainian army to fight against Russian troops.

A suspected Ukrainian missile strike on a key bridge linking the occupied Crimean peninsula – some 80 miles from the front lines – is yet another indication of Kyiv’s ability to strike deep into Russian held territory. The bridge, one of just a few links between Crimea and the rest of Ukraine, was a major supply route for Russian troops fighting in the southern section of the battlefield.

The nature of air combat is about to drastically change. The need to rapidly gain advanced and highly autonomous uncrewed aircraft that work collaboratively with crewed types is becoming an imperative for U.S. and allied air arms. Aging existing fighter aircraft and newer ones that are increasingly expensive to acquire and sustain, paired with pilot shortages and rapidly evolving threats abroad mean that the old way of doing the air combat business is becoming no longer sustainable.
